Special Education
At Scoil Chlochair Mhuire, we are proud to be a genuinely inclusive school, one where every child belongs, every child is known and every child is supported to reach their potential.
We have five dedicated classes for children with autism, including an Early Intervention class for children of pre-school age. Early intervention classes are designed to provide targeted, specialist support to autistic children at the earliest possible stage and the evidence is clear that this early investment makes an enormous difference to children's long-term development and confidence.
Each of our autism classes has a teacher and two Special Needs Assistants, providing the small class sizes and high adult-to-child ratios that allow for genuinely personalised, responsive teaching. Our staff are experienced, highly trained and deeply committed to the children in their care.
Our special classes offer specialist teaching and adapted curricular options within a flexible structure, while giving children the opportunity to attend a mainstream school alongside their peers and siblings. Children integrate with the wider school community as much as they are able, joining mainstream classes, activities, yard time and school events in ways that are tailored to each child's individual needs and comfort. Inclusion at Scoil Chlochair Mhuire is never forced, but it is always encouraged and carefully supported.
We believe that a school which works well for children with the most complex needs works better for every child. Our autism classes are not separate from our school, they are an integral and valued part of who we are.
