Learning Support (SET)

At Scoil Chlochair Mhuire, we are committed to making sure that every child gets the support they need to thrive, and that those with the greatest need receive the greatest level of support. This is not just our philosophy; it is the guiding principle of how learning support is structured in Irish primary schools.

The Continuum of Support framework enables schools to identify and respond to needs in a flexible way, so that difficulties can be addressed as early as possible. The core principle is clear: pupils with the greatest level of need have access to the greatest levels of support.

In practice, this means support at Scoil Chlochair Mhuire is structured across three levels. Most children's needs are met within the classroom through differentiated teaching and in-class support. Where a child needs more targeted help, a School Support Plan is put in place, involving the class teacher, learning support staff and parents.

For children with more significant and persistent needs, a School Support Plus Plan is developed, which may involve collaboration with external professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists or a NEPS psychologist.

Methodologies used include differentiation, team-teaching, small-group teaching and individualised support, with all interventions evidence-informed.

We work closely with families throughout this process. Parents are partners, not bystanders, and we believe that open, honest communication between home and school makes the biggest difference of all to a child's progress.

If you have any concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to speak to your child's teacher. We would always rather talk early than wait.
