Duffy, our wonderful school assistance dog from Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, joined the Scoil Chlochair Mhuire family in September 2025. From the moment she arrived, she brought a sense of calm, comfort and joy to our school community. In many ways, it feels as though she has always been here.

Duffy’s gentle and affectionate nature has made her a much-loved companion to pupils and staff alike. Her presence helps to create a calm and welcoming environment, supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and helping them to feel relaxed, confident and ready to learn. Research has shown that school therapy and assistance dogs can help reduce anxiety, encourage positive social interactions, support emotional regulation and even motivate children to engage in reading and learning activities.

Duffy has become an important part of daily life in our school. Whether greeting pupils in the morning, providing comfort during challenging moments or simply brightening everyone's day, her positive impact is felt throughout the school. We are truly honoured to have Duffy with us each day and are grateful to Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland for making this special partnership possible.
