Arts & Creativity

At Scoil Chlochair Mhuire, the Arts are not an extra, they are essential. We believe that every child deserves rich, regular experiences in Art, Drama and Music, and we are committed to making that happen across every class level.

The Arts Education curriculum enables children to explore and express their ideas, feelings and experiences through Visual Art, Drama, and Music. Arts Education supports children's holistic development and can ignite their imaginations as they explore, create and express themselves through artistic processes — fostering a sense of identity, self-awareness and the ability to take creative risks, make and learn from mistakes and think outside the box.

Our staff have been trained in the updated Arts Education specification and are embedding its approaches throughout the school day.

While Art, Drama and Music each have their own knowledge, concepts, skills and intrinsic value, they also share a common creative process and transferable skills and we draw on that connection to make learning richer and more meaningful across subjects.

The new Primary Curriculum Framework expands Arts Education with particular reference to media arts, dance and film, and seeks to encourage increasingly integrated approaches to teaching and learning in this space. This means your child's experience of the Arts at Scoil Chlochair Mhuire is broader and more ambitious than ever before.

We know that children who are given space to create, perform and imagine grow into more confident, empathetic and resilient people. The Arts are not a break from learning, they are some of the most important learning we do.
